Georgetown County Council approves emergency declaration

GtCounty General News Posted on August 05, 2024

Georgetown County Council has approved an emergency declaration in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby. This declaration will ensure that emergency management officials and first responders are able to utilize all resources of County Government as reasonably necessary to cope with a disaster.

The declaration will go into effect at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 6 and remain in effect for 61 days unless terminated sooner by act of Georgetown County Council.

The latest prediction from the National Weather Service is for 15-20 inches of rain through the end of this week. We're expecting flooding in low-lying areas and moderate flooding along the Santee and Pee Dee rivers. We should start seeing tropical storm force winds tomorrow afternoon into the evening. Residents along the immediate coast should also prepare for storm surge.
