County opens parking area for bikeway in Murrells Inlet

Parks and Recreation Posted on April 28, 2025

County and state officials came together on April 25 to officially open the new parking area for the bikeway that runs along Business 17 into Huntington Beach State Park. Users of the path, which runs from the Horry County line down Business 17 and throughout Litchfield and Pawleys Island, had long been clamoring for more parking for the bikeway.
The parking area, made of pervious pavement, cost a total of $515,000 with $325,000 coming from the state. SC Rep. Lee Hewitt, Sen. Stephen Goldfinch and Santee Cooper helped secure funds.
“This project is a gateway to Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island, encouraging exercise and sightseeing of our natural habitats,” said Georgetown County Council Member Stella Mercado. The project is located within her council district. County Council Chairman Clint Elliott was also present for the event.
Special thanks go to Rep. Hewitt, Sen. Goldfinch, Santee Cooper, Georgetown County Public Services and Parks and Recreation departments, contractor ARC of Murrells Inlet, architect Bolton and Menk of Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet 2020, and of course Linda Ketron and Bike the Neck.
