Purrfect Matches: New campaign aims to help adoptable cats find forever homes

GtCounty General News Posted on August 08, 2025 | Last Updated on August 08, 2025

This International Cat Day, Georgetown County is partnering with St. Frances Animal Center to launch a playful new adoption campaign to help our feline residents find the love of their lives — and their forever homes.

"MeowMatch" takes a lighthearted approach to adoption promotion by introducing adoptable cats through “dating profiles” written from the cats’ point of view. Each profile highlights a kitty’s unique quirks, favorite activities and “fun facts,” so potential adopters can get to know their personalities before visiting the shelter.

“Every cat here has their own story and their own special charm,” said Alexandria Newton, adoptions/outreach coordinator for St. Frances.

“We wanted a way to showcase them as individuals — not just as another face in a kennel. This campaign lets their personalities shine,” added Jackie Broach, Georgetown County Public Information Officer.

A Feline Twist on Matchmaking

Instead of swiping through people, followers on Georgetown County's social media accounts can “swipe” through adoptable cats. From shy snuggle-bugs to feisty playmates, from biscuit-bakers to laser-pointer chasers, there’s a cat for everyone — and this campaign is all about helping them meet their match.

Alongside the profiles, the county wants to produce short “speed dating” videos that feature multiple cats in quick succession, giving viewers a glimpse of their looks and personalities in action.

Beyond International Cat Day

While the campaign launched August 8 to celebrate International Cat Day, Georgetown County and St. Frances plan to keep the fun going all year long. Each month, a new cat (or cats!) will be featured with fresh profiles and videos.

“Our hope is that people will look forward to meeting the ‘new singles’ each month,” Broach said. “The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office already has an established social media feature to highlight adoptable dogs. We didn't want the cats to be left out. This is a fun way to keep adoption in the spotlight and remind the community that we always have wonderful adoptable animals waiting for homes.”

St. Frances is the county's designated animal shelter and the shelter receives a portion of its funding from the county.
