The Georgetown County Library recently received a donation of United States and South Carolina flags from the not-for-profit organization WoodmenLife. The group is a generous fraternal benefit society, also known as Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society, with a tradition dating back to 1890, of supporting civic organizations through its patriotic programs.
The flags were presented to Library Director Dwight McInvaill by Deborah Stoner, a WoodmenLife representative.
“It’s an honor to help libraries and other community entities display our patriotic symbols of heritage and pride,” said Deborah Stoner. “We at WoodmenLife appreciate the opportunity to acknowledge in this way the legacies that we, as Americans, value so highly. It is a way for us to show respect for our country and state.”
Library Director Dwight McInvaill expressed the library’s gratitude at this donation.
“We are deeply thankful to Deborah Stoner and to WoodmenLife for these flags that remind us every day of the special nature of our nation as exhibited in our core First Amendment civil liberties – including the freedoms of religion, speech and press, along with rights to assemble and to petition the government," McInvaill said. "These are indeed the jewels of democracy that the United States introduced to the world.”
