If you’ve been swatting more than usual lately, you’re not alone — mosquitoes are out in full force across Georgetown County right now, and yes, some of them are disturbingly large! Our hardworking teams in the Mosquito Control and Stormwater Department are well aware of the problem, and they’re doing everything they can to bring relief to affected areas.

What We’re Doing

Our staff is currently out in the field every day (and some nights), targeting mosquito populations where they’re worst. That means if you’ve called the office and haven’t gotten an answer, it’s because they’re right where we all want them — actively working to reduce mosquito numbers. The team is checking every voicemail, but due to the high volume of calls, they may not be able to return each one right away.

To address the surge:

• Spraying has been doubled in high-problem areas.
• Weekend sprays are being added.
• Targeted spraying in North Santee is underway following recent flooding that created a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

A Few Things to Know

If you see one of our trucks out on the road, please don’t try to flag it down. Our crews follow specific routes and safety procedures and unfortunately cannot spray on private property. But rest assured, their efforts are aimed at the areas that need it most.
