[ARCHIVED] Nonprofits looking to connect with volunteers at fair

The Friends of the Waccamaw Library will host its annual "Know The Neck" volunteer fair on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Waccamaw Library auditorium.

"The volunteer fair is a popular event for area nonprofits and members of our community. We have many nonprofit organizations returning this year, as well as several organizations that are participating for the first time," said Bea Manoni, event chairperson. "We hope to see many members of our community come by the library on February 22 to see how they may contribute their skills and talents to these organizations."

With new residents moving into Georgetown County, and many being retired, the Friends group decided to offer a community an event to help people see what nonprofit groups are in need of help and how best to become involved, added Diane Stern, Friends group president. "When my husband and I moved to Pawleys Island, one of our new goals was to find where we could make a difference knowing our volunteerism would help us meet people and create good friendships," she said.

Since 2017, the "Know The Neck" volunteer fair has been hosted by the Friends of the Waccamaw Library with the goal of educating residents of the need in our communities and promoting volunteerism. The Friends group is a nonprofit organization with the mission to support and promote the Waccamaw Library.
