[ARCHIVED] Participants sought for Veterans Day Parade

American Legion Post 114 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6444 will again sponsor this year’s Georgetown Veterans Day Parade. The parade kicks off at 2 p.m. Nov. 11. Line up starts at 1 p.m. at East Bay Park.

"Unfortunately, this parade for veterans doesn’t have the same enthusiasm and anticipation as July 4th and Christmas parades," said Paige Sawyer, Georgetown County Veterans Services Officer. "Most people don’t give Veteran’s Day a second thought."

It's easy for residents, businesses, civic clubs, patriotic organizations, churches and other groups to  show their support for local veterans by decorating a truck, golf cart or other vehicle in red, white and blue with a sign that simply says "thank you," he added.

There is no entry fee to participate in the parade. The deadline to register is Friday, Nov. 8. To participate, call text or email one of the following individuals with your name, the name of your group (if applicable) and contact information: Rodney Ward, 843-833-3700, rodneyellen49@yahoo.com Ed Dennis, 401-920-2699, Cmd@vfw6444.org Franklin McCray, 843-997-5546, larettam39@gmail.com Peggy Baldwin, 719-453-7850, semperfigal@live.com.
