[ARCHIVED] Parts of Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk to close for repairs

People walk along the wooden boardwalk known as the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk

Sections of the popular Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk will close for repairs beginning Monday, April 26. Two crews will close and repair one section of boardwalk at a time, with one crew starting at Wahoo’s and moving south, and another starting at Dead Dog Saloon and moving north.

Repair times for each section of the Marsh Walk will vary based on the condition of the structure in that area. Unfortunately, workers won’t be able to diagnose the condition of each section until work begins and the decking has been removed. Overall, it is estimated work on each section should take less than three weeks from when work on that section starts.

Georgetown County Council approved emergency repairs to the Marsh Walk last week at a cost of $144,458 following a structural assessment. The assessment indicated it was urgent that repairs be made this spring before peak tourist season and an increase in traffic on the Marsh Walk. Repairs will include replacement of failing structural components including decking, guardrails, and hardware and fastenings. Less urgent repairs are in the process of being bid out and will take place in the coming fiscal year.
