The Georgetown County Treasurer's Office has moved operations to County Council Chambers while repairs are made to its home on the first floor of the historic courthouse. Offices on the back side of the courthouse, including the Treasurer's Office, Building Department and Stormwater Department, were damaged by flooding resulting from unprecedented rainfall on Dec. 17.
Customers for the Treasurer's Office were already lined up in the hallway outside Council Chambers at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning as computers and printers were still being set up in chambers. Treasurer Miriam Mace said the office will be fully operational in its new temporary location, but with only three phones available in chambers, taxpayers may have trouble getting through via phone. Email may be a more efficient means of communication with the office for the time being. Residents can email the Treasurer's Office at taxinfo@gtcounty.org. Operations for the Building and Stormwater departments have not changed since yesterday. The Stormwater Department continues to work out of the Georgetown Airport and the County Emergency Operations Center. The Building Department has temporarily relocated to the conference room across from the Planning Department at the historic courthouse and is open for limited operations. Building inspections will not be performed today as those staff members continue to assist with damage assessment efforts following the storm.
It is unknown how long it will take to repair the damaged offices and move the departments back to their normal locations.
