For the seventh consecutive year, Georgetown County government has received the highest form of recognition available in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The county’s Finance Department was presented with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on Sept. 10. The award was presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for the county’s most recent annual comprehensive financial report. The attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
The report submitted by the county was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes “demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report, according to the association.

Georgetown County Administrator Angela Christian said the county strives to be transparent in all its operations and finances, and the county’s finance staff works hard to find ways to meet that goal.
“We can never take these accomplishments for granted,” Christian said. “It takes a lot of team work to make it happen and I’m very proud of our team for this success and all the effort they put in. We’re looking forward to continuing this tradition of excellence.”
