Georgetown County officials are closely monitoring Tropical Storm Debby as it treks through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida. Although exact impacts are still uncertain, we can expect heavy rainfall and gusty winds over the next several days. As of the 8:30am forecast from the National Weather Service on August 4, rainfall amounts of 12 to 20 inches are possible, especially for portions of Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties. This amount of rainfall could result in areas of flash flooding and urban flooding.
Now is the time to prepare your home and family. Review your emergency plan, inventory your disaster supply kit, and secure outdoor items that could be subject to strong winds. Please note that Georgetown County is not currently planning a sandbag operation. Sandbags can be purchased at many local businesses.
