Sheriff Carter Weaver and the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office will host the 36th annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Pawleys Island Community Church. The event is free and everyone is invited. It will take place from 6-8 p.m. on the church lawn at 10304 Ocean Highway.
This fun, family event will include inflatables, games, a deejay and plenty of food. But National Night Out also has a more important purpose. It is a community-building campaign designed with four main goals in mind:
• To heighten crime prevention awareness;
• To generate support and participation in anti-crime programs;
• To strengthen neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships; and
• To send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
In short, National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community, and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
