Landfill & Solid Waste
Section Functions
The landfill & solid waste section functions as a component of Georgetown County Environmental Services Division. This section provides solid waste management services to residents of Georgetown County. Environmental Services Division, as a whole, aims to enhance public health, protect the environment, and provide the highest quality service.
The Georgetown County Landfill consists of a Class III landfill and a Class II landfill. The Class III landfill has four planned cells expected to last nearly 20 years. It was constructed with an engineered lining system and leachate collection system to prevent leakage into the environment. The Class II landfill contains debris from construction, demolition and remodeling, including structural items such as lumber, concrete and wallboard. Combined, these two facilities receive more than 85,000 tons of debris per year.
